Penny Diamantopoulou
Σπούδασε χορό στην Ανώτερη Επαγγελματική Σχολή «Άννα Πέτροβα». Αποφοίτησε από το Τμήμα Γαλλικής Γλώσσας και Φιλολογίας της Φιλοσοφικής Σχολής του ΕΚΠΑ.
Ολοκλήρωσε το Επαγγελματικό και Μεταπτυχιακό Πρόγραμμα σπουδών ως υπότροφος στην σχολή της Martha Graham στην Νέα Υόρκη. Υπήρξε μέλος της χορευτικής ομάδας Martha Graham Dance Ensemble (1995-2000) καθώς και μέλος του διδακτικού προσωπικού της ομώνυμης σχολής στην Νέα Υόρκη (1998-2000).
Υπήρξε μέλος του εκπαιδευτικού προσωπικού της Κρατικής Σχολής Ορχηστικής Τέχνης (2002-2021) όπου δίδασκε τεχνική και ρεπερτόριο Graham και συνεργάζεται σταθερά με την Ανώτερη Επαγγελματική Σχολή «ΧοροΧρόνος», το Fix Dance Studio και το Dance Athens. Παραδίδει σεμινάρια της τεχνικής σε επαγγελματικές σχολές σε Αθήνα, Θεσσαλονίκη και Λάρισα καθώς και σε ερασιτεχνικά τμήματα όλων των ηλικιών στην Ελλάδα και την Κύπρο. Σε συνεργασία με την ομάδα χορού της Martha Graham, αναλαμβάνει να διδάξει, αναβιώσει και παρουσιάσει ολοκληρωμένα έργα ή αποσπάσματα του ρεπερτορίου της χορογράφου στην Αμερική (New York City Center), την Ελλάδα (Ηρώδειο, Μέγαρο Μουσικής Αθηνών, Φεστιβάλ Αθηνών/Πειραιώς 260), την Γαλλία (Conservatoire de Paris), τη Βοσνία (Sarajevo/Tanzelarija) , την Ουγγαρία (Hungarian Dance University/Budapest Dance Festival), το Βέλγιο και την Τουρκία (Izmir International Festival).
Συνεργάζεται με την Νίνα Παπαθανασοπούλου στην παρουσίαση ενός μικτού προγράμματος διάλεξης και χορού που απευθύνεται σε ελληνόφωνο και αγγλόφωνο κοινό, με θέμα τη σχέση ανάμεσα στις χορογραφίες της Martha Graham και τον αρχαίο ελληνικό μύθο (College Year in Athens, DEREE College, American Community Schools of Athens, DANCE Athens, Θέατρο Πορεία, Ελληνοαμερικάνικη Ένωση, Διεθνές Φεστιβάλ Κέρκυρας).
Σε συνεργασία με τον Οργανισμό Movement Migration, διδάσκει από τον Αύγουστο του ’20 διαδικτυακά σεμινάρια της τεχνικής Graham σε χορευτές από Αμερική, Ευρώπη και Ασία. Είναι ιδρυτικό μέλος, καλλιτεχνική διευθύντρια και χορογράφος της ομάδας χορού «ΑΡΘΡΩΣΙΣ», με την οποία παρουσιάζει έργα της σε Ελλάδα και Αμερική από το 2003.
Penny Diamantopoulou was born and raised in Athens, Greece where she started her dance training in Classical ballet and Modern dance. She graduated from “Anna Petrova” Professional Dance School. In 1995, after graduating from the Athens University (Department of French Language and Literature), she moved to NY to study at the Martha Graham School of Contemporary Dance on a Demonstrator‘s scholarship. There she completed the Post Certificate Program, as well as her Teaching Training with Diane Gray and Joyce Herring.
She is a former member of the Martha Graham Dance Ensemble under the direction of Kazuko Hirabayashi, Joyce Herring and Kenneth Topping (1996-2000) and a Faculty member at the Martha Graham School (1998-2000).
She has been a Faculty member at the National School of Dance (2002-2021) and at "horohronos" Professional Dance School since 2017, where she teaches Graham Technique(™) and Repertory. She also gives Workshops and Master classes to students and dancers of various ages and backgrounds in Greece and Cyprus.
In collaboration with the Martha Graham Dance Company, she teaches, reconstructs and restages pieces or excerpts of the Graham Repertoire in New York (City Center), Greece (Herod Atticus Ancient Theatre, Athens Concert Hall, Athens Festival), France (Conservatoire de Paris), Bosnia (Tanzelarija/Sarajevo), Belgium, Hungary (Hungarian Dance University for the Budapest Dance Festival) and Turkey (Izmir International Festival).
In collaboration with Nina Papathanasopoulou, she presents a lecture demonstration program on the connection between Martha Graham’s choreography and the ancient Greek Mythology (CYA, DEREE College, ACS, DANCE Athens, Poreia Theatre, Hellenic American Union, Corfu International Festival).
In August ’20 she started her collaboration with Movement Migration Nonprofit Organization, teaching virtual Intermediate/Advanced Graham Technique classes for dancers from Europe, Asia and the USA.
She is the founder, choreographer and artistic director of ARTHROSIS Dance Company (based in Athens) with which she presents her work since 2003.
