DEBRA SHANNON

Born in Brooklyn, New York, USA Debra has had an unusual journey. During her music studies (classical training at Queens College of the City University of New York: B.A. magna cum laude), she discovered contemporary dance as an amateur dancer. An

adventure which is going to inspire her. She discovered African dance and music in 1987 and went to Senegal to learn the balafon and djembe

at the National Conservatory of Dakar. With Jazz studies in New York and Paris, or Indian music: tabla and the bansuri flute in Paris, all her influences enrich her whole universe of sounds,

with which she accompanies the dance. In Paris she plays at the CRR, DNSP JAZZ of the PSPBB, the CND (in training from DE and CA), private studios and at the CNSMDP where she also teaches the initiation of choreographic

accompaniment in Contemporary Dance since 2007. Her pedagogy uses Dalcrozian principles (Certificate of Continuing Education in Geneva in 2005), helping

musicians to 'dance' with their instruments.
