Ms. Diamantopoulou was born and raised in Athens, Greece where she started her dance training in Classical ballet and Modern dance. She graduated from “Anna Petrova”, Professional Dance School (1994), with a dancer’s and teacher’s degree. In 1995, after graduating from the Athens University (Department of French Language and Literature), she moved to NY to study at the Martha Graham School of Contemporary Dance on a Demonstrator's scholarship. There she completed the Professional Trainee program (1998) and the Post Certificate program (2000), as well as the Teaching Training courses with Diane Gray and Joyce Herring.
She is a former member of the Martha Graham Dance Ensemble (currently known as Graham 2) under the direction of Kazuko Hirabayashi, Joyce Herring and Kenneth Topping (1996-2000).
She was a Faculty member at the Martha Graham School of Contemporary Dance (1998-2000) and was also invited as a guest teacher at Alvin Ailey American Dance Theater, Τhe Neighborhood Playhouse & the State University of New York/SUNY Purchase. During the Ensemble’s tours, she taught Master classes at various Universities and Colleges in the US.
Ms. Diamantopoulou has been a Faculty member at the Greek National School of Dance (2002-2021) and at "horohronos" Professional dance school (2017-2025). She is invited to give Residency workshops and Master classes to in Greece, Cyprus, Turkey, Bosnia/Herzegovina, Ireland, Austria and the UK. In Athens, she offers open classes in collaboration with various dance schools and studios for dancers of multiple levels, ages and backgrounds.
In collaboration with the Martha Graham Center, she teaches, reconstructs and restages pieces or excerpts of the Graham Repertory in New York (NY City Center), Greece (Herodes Atticus Ancient Theatre, Megaron the Athens Concert Hall, Athens and Epidaurus Festival, Thessaloniki International Fair, the American Community Schools of Athens Theater, Deree the American College of Greece, Foundation of Hellenic World, College Year in Athens, Hellenic-American Union), Hungary (Hungarian Dance University/Budapest Dance Festival), France (Conservatoire de Paris), Belgium and Turkey (Izmir International Festival).
With the permission of the Martha Graham Resources, she has co-created with Nina Papathanasopoulou, Ph.D., a special event combining Classical philology and live dancing performance titled “Martha Graham and Greek Myth”. This presentation explores Graham’s groundbreaking technique, vision and movement vocabulary, as well as her approach to Greek mythology, and addresses to both Greek and English speaking audiences.
She is the founder, choreographer and artistic director of ARTHROSIS Dance Company (based in Athens) with which she presents her work since 2003. Penny has an ongoing collaboration with Graham For Europe since 2022, and has been invited to teach and create in Athens, Paris, Venice and Dublin for the Intensive Workshops. Olia Tornaritou is a graduate with honors, from Anna Petrova Professional Dance School in Athens, Greece and the Martha Graham School of Contemporary Dance in
New York. In New York she was a member of Analysis Dance Company, dancing from 1996 to 2000. In 1999 she was selected to perform with the Martha Graham Dance Company the revival of Panorama, Graham’s iconic choreography, under the direction of the legendary Yuriko Kikuchi at the Joyce Theater performances.
She is a senior faculty member at The National School of dance teaching from 2000 until today the Martha Graham technique at the school’s professional, and pre-
professional division. She was the Rehearsal Director at the Hellenic Dance Company from 2000-2018 in productions which took place in Greece and abroad (Brussels, Paris and New York City). From 2013 until 2018 she was choreographing yearly a demo of the Graham technique for the graduating students at the Professional division’s Annual Black Box Performance. From September 2019 until today is a faculty member at the Greek National Opera’s Professional Dance School, teaching the Martha Graham technique.
From 2000 until today is a faculty member, teaching the Graham technique at the Duncan Dance Research Center, Akmi and Axia Vocational Training Institutes,
Studio Metsis, Limassol Municipal Dance School, Akropoditi Dance Festival, DAN.CE Studio as well as the Mari Chatzimichali Professional Dance School and
Rallou Manou Professional Dance School. She is teaching workshops consistently in various dance schools, in Athens, all Greek regions and Cyprus in order to promote the Graham technique.
In 2002 and 2012 was appointed by the Ministry of Culture as a member of the Examining Board for the Diploma Exams of the Professional Dance Schools in the
contemporary dance field. In 2006 she was appointed by the Theater and Dance Department of the Ministry of Culture as Vice-president of the Board regarding the
Greek dance companies’ grands. In May 2022 was honored by the Cyprus Dance Association and the Municipality of Limassol with the “Lilli Chouri” lifetime achievement Award for her total contribution in the art of Dance in Greece and Cyprus.
