🇫🇷 GRAHAM WORKSHOP FOR TEACHERS WITH VIRGINIE MECENE

For the first time in France, there is a #Graham technique workshop for teachers. 

The class will be led by Virginie MĂ©cène, former Principal Dancer with the Martha Graham Company and former Director of the Martha Graham School. 

For whom?

This workshop is open to Graham-trained teachers or other teachers who would like to include some basic Graham in their classes. 

When?

The 3-Hour Teacher Workshop will be on June 14th from 12.30 to 15.30pm.

Who is Virginie Mécène?

Virginie MĂ©cène, former Principal Dancer with the Martha Graham Dance Company, has served as the Director of the Martha Graham School from 2007 to 2015 developing the School curriculum while sustaining the integrity of the Martha Graham technique and nurturing the process that continues its development. She is currently the Program Director for the Two-Year Certificate Program and for the Teacher Training Program at the Martha Graham School. She has also been the Artistic Director of Graham 2 since 2007.

Virginie MĂ©cène has taught master classes, workshops, and held conferences nationally and internationally and teaches technique, repertory, and pedagogy. She has trained many dancers of the Martha Graham Dance Company as well as many Graham teachers who are currently teaching all over the world. 

A native of France, she graduated from the University of Bourgogne with a License Professionnelle in Artistic and Cultural management. She received multi-disciplinary dance training in Paris and graduated with a C.A.E. in Jazz from the Fédération Française de la Danse. After teaching in Paris she moved to New York City in 1988 for in-depth studies of the Martha Graham technique.

As a regisseur, Virginie MĂ©cène has restaged Miss Graham’s works nationally and internationally in Universities and companies. She has re-imagined Graham’s solo Ekstasis for the Martha Graham Dance Company and reconstructed the “Puritan Duet” from American Document.
